Position: Assistant Safety & Health Manager

As Assistant Safety & Health manager you will be responsible for executing a variety of tasks and activities in support of Merrick PetCare's Workplace Safety programs. You will also provide support to the commitment and continual improvement of Workplace Safety.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform safety audits, inspections and evaluations of critical processing areas and / or equipment of the facility including periodic communication of results and follow up with department managers.
  • Conduct employee and contractor safety and health training and orientation as well as conduct specialty training, including forklift, manlifts and chemical safety
  • Conduct periodic inspections of safety systems including fire extinguisher and AED
  • Conduct incident investigations
  • Become certified in CPR/ First aid, Forklift Train-the-Trainer instruction and industry safety certifications.
  • Reports safety issues to supervisors and plant managers with recommendations on how to resolve the issue.
  • Leads local Safety, Wellness and Emergency Response Committees.

Perform all duties as assigned and necessary.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of experience in a safety or compliance role within a manufacturing, industrial, military or related environment and 2+ years of leadership experience.


  • Bachelor's Degree with 2+ years of experience in a safety or compliance role within a manufacturing, industrial, military or related environment and 1+ years of leadership experience.

Preferred but not required: Bilingual (Spanish)
