Join Us: Our growing company is looking for a Production Team Leader to lead our teams within our Pet Food Manufacturing facilities located in Hereford, Texas. 

Our Production Team Leaders at Merrick are the front line leaders of our organization and the face of our company with their teams.  We look to the team leader for guidance and direction to keep our teams safe, our people happy and engaged, food quality to the highest level we expect from Merrick and our production flowing to our customers.  The role will require hands on operation as well as tactical decision making and team member coaching and discipline when required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Work to provide a safe work environment for all team members and improving our safety culture through their actions and leadership with their teams.
  • Authorized to stop work for safety investigations and empowers entire team to stop if unsafe.
  • Conduct safety observations and coaching throughout assigned shift to identify safe behaviors from our team members and correct any unsafe work practices or situations. 
  • Responsible for leading daily safety "Tool Box" meetings with departmental staff and escalating department safety concerns/issue to Production Manager if they cannot solve the situation.
  • Conducts safety stand down meetings in the event of an unsafe work observation or a safety related incident.
  • Responsible for inspecting equipment and guarding throughout shift to ensure that operators are not exposed to hazards.
  • Responsible for the direct communication of any safety related incidents to direct supervisor (Production Manager) with accurate information. 


  • Coach and develop a team that is empowered to make the right decisions in safety, quality and production needs.
  • Develop ownership from their team members in meeting and exceeding targets for Safety, Quality and Production
  • Recognize and reward individuals and their team for contributions to the goal of safe, quality production.
  • Develop a culture where employees are comfortable and know what is expected of them while at work.


  • Ensure we are producing quality pet food by meeting all quality attribute requirements of the product during the production runs
  • Ensure that all PMP, HACCP, GMP and Good Housekeeping practices are followed. Facility shall be maintained in a clean and organized manner.
  • Develop their team to be knowledgeable on all quality expectations and help team improve the quality production

  Plant Operations

  • Responsible for the overall performance monitoring of department during assigned shift.  This includes but is not limited to throughput and efficiency monitoring, product quality evaluations, GMP compliance and individual employee performance opportunities.
  • Assist other department team leaders in managing departmental needs (ie.. Staffing, tools, supplies, safety equipment, etc..).
  • Review all departmental reporting for accuracy.
  • Report all down time in a timely manner using the Help Chain/Escalation Process.
  • Responsible for properly filling out shift notes and getting help on issues immediately as needed and seeking help from their Production Manager if needed.
  • Works directly with Production Manager to identify and resolve all staff performance and factory performance obstacles.
  • Be a strong, positive, communicator with everyone on your team, the production manager and the plant manager as situations require. 
  • Meet all daily goals for their areas and work to continuously improve with their team in areas that are falling short.
  • Be capable of holding team members accountable for safe, quality production and coaches them for improvement on all of the above.

Basic Qualifications Required:

2+ years manufacturing experience; prefer 1+ years supervisory experience 

Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, including weekday, weekend and holidays overtime as required

Preferred Skills: Detail Oriented, problem solver, ability to perform analysis and validate results, proficient in basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office applications, strong communication skills, organization skills and self-starter.  

Bilingual in Spanish a plus but not required.
